Government General Degree College, Tehatta started its journey in 2015. Within a very short span, the college has marked its stunning presence in the higher education sector in line with Government of West Bengal’s mission to spread the light of higher education even to the remotest parts of the state. Affiliated to the University of Kalyani, the college offers Honours/Core Courses in five Humanities subjects (Bengali, English, History, Philosophy and Political Science). It also offers Pass/Programme Courses in both Humanities and Science (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). Following NEP 2020, the college has also started offering 4-year Major and Minor Courses in eight (8) Humanities and Science subjects including Bengali, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from 2023-2024 academic session. NEP’s focus on skill development courses along with an interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach will empower our students with necessary tools for progress. Our college with its impressive building, laboratories, smart classrooms, departmental libraries, lecture theatre and other infrastructure welcome students from all sections to pursue higher education. The college nestled on the pleasant banks of the Jalangi River and surrounded by lush green landscape away from the congested urban landscape, provides an ideal setting for learning. With a dedicated body of teaching and non-teaching staffs, the college is making unremitting efforts to guide students in their comprehensive development. Performance of students in final university examination is also admirable. The students’ engagement in different extra-curricular activities like participation in annual college sports and cultural programmes is also remarkable. NSS unit of our college is also super active. Their initiatives like Cleanliness Drive, Safe Drive Save Life, visiting Orphanage and Tree Plantation activities contribute to society at large as well. In spite of being a new college, we have formed an active Alumni Association. Besides regular courses, the college offers Add on Courses on relevant topics like Ethics and Human Values, Communicative English and Gender Studies. The college organizes Seminars, Conference and Workshops from time to time. Few of these include National Conference on Environmental Crisis, Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights and Cyber awareness. Students also participate vibrantly in celebrating important events like Independence Day, World photography day, Environment Day, International Bhasha Divas, Yoga day and College Foundation day. Creativity of students is manifested through their output in the form of original writing and painting in our college magazine, Dhonodhanyo and Departmental wall magazines. Our college provides a supportive and inclusive ambience that promotes academic excellence, creativity and individual growth. We are committed to equip our students with proper values which will contribute to the creation of academically sound, successful, responsible, and compassionate human beings. As the Officer-in- Charge/Principal of this college, I look forward to the continual support and good wishes of all the stakeholders in order to shape this higher education institution as a centre for excellence.
