Government General Degree College, Tehatta started its journey in 2015. Within a very short period, the college has marked its stunning presence in the higher education sector in line with Government of West Bengal’s mission to spread the light of higher education even to the remotest parts of the state. Affiliated to the University of Kalyani, the college offers Honours/Core Courses in five Humanities subjects (Bengali, English, History, Philosophy and Political Science). It is also offering Pass/Programme Courses in both Humanities and Science (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). The college with its impressive building, laboratories, smart classrooms, departmental libraries, lecture theatre and other infrastructure welcome students from all sections to pursue higher education. The college nestled on the pleasant banks of the Jalangi River and surrounded by lush green landscape away from the congested urban scenario, provides an ideal setting for learning. With a dedicated body of teaching and non-teaching staffs, the college is making unremitting efforts to guide students in their comprehensive development. Performance of students in final university examination is admirable. The students’ engagement in different extra-curricular activities like participation in annual college sports and cultural programmes, contribution to college magazine, Dhonodhanyo, NSS activities is also remarkable. As the Officer-in-Charge of this college, I look forward to the continual support and good wishes of all the stakeholders in order to shape this higher education institution as a centre for excellence.
