Seminar on Bengali Literature and Bengali Film organised by Dept. of Bengali on 03.03.2017
On 3rd of March 2017, the Department of Bengali under the able leadership of Dr. Sibsankar Pal and the effort of Shri. Nitish Ghosh, organised a seminar on "Bengali Literature and Bengali Film". Following an interesting introduction to the twin worlds of literature and cinema by Dr. Gobardhan Rano, Officer-in-Charge, the focus shifted to Dr. Sibsankar Pal, who provided new perspectives upon the ways in which literature could be brought to life by such eminent directors as Satyajit Ray. Giving examples such as that of Apu in Pather Panchali, Dr. Pal explained how film helps us understand literature better and thus appreciate the true intentions of the authors.
Along with small discussions by Shri. Nitish Ghosh and Shri. Aritra Majumdar (of Dept. of History), Dr Pal's lecture set the tone for a riveting discussion on the twin aspects of film and literature in the contemporary Bengali intellectual space.
This was followed by the screening of an important Bengali film and further discussion on the depictions of the characters within.
